blueberries

the nature of my job is simple and miraculous. in photographing families i get to witness them in a very real and intimate way. parts of the recipe for each session is the same. i see parents adoring their kids, followed by those same parents becoming frustrated with those same kids' energy. i see a child expressing his or her independence to this new stranger with a camera, and in the very next moment acting out his or her daily routines of dependence on mom and dad. its in the small gesture--the break away from mom's loving embrace, followed immediately by reaching a small hand up to cling to mom's pant leg. its beautiful, its aggravating, its hilarious, and all of it, all of it is good. still, every family brings something new to the table. they have their own way of loving, of being together, of doing something as simple as sharing a few blueberries. in the emails i passed back and forth with this family's mom, cassidy, i was touched  by how she expressed her absolute devotion and love to her kids and her husband. she simply said that they're everything. and they are.

Kelsey got married today.

and i got to photograph it. scott was there too. good thing, because  he's the guy she married. and they are perfect together. what you see here are from kelsey's bridal session last week in the studio and in a little patch of pretty off the side of the road. kelsey arrived with her mom (fascinating) and her dad(hilarious)  and a basket of loose odds and ends, including the peaches, and i had the time of my photographic life. no joke.

quick trivia:

what's the most special thing about these images other than the charming girl, her amazing freckles, and the fact that this is one of the most beautiful, love toned times in her young life?

i developed and scanned the images myself. and i was horribly slow at it. and i loved every single second. because film BLOWS MY MIND.

thanks for looking, hearts (as uncle marty would say).

p.s. kelsey hates having her picture taken.

heiden and michelle in love in boise

these guys are in love, like the la la la la  looooooove you scream from the top of you lungs about it, l o v e. it was more than cool hanging out with them around boise's downtown. it was inspiring. and before you ask, YES, there is a meaning behind the salt and pepper shakers. heiden and michelle  go together just like that. they are not the same, not at all the same even, but together is where they belong.  man it makes me happy.

oh, and cool side story, i went to elementary school with heiden. we played basketball together in the fifth grade. these are important things to note. however, because michelle was the one who first contacted me, we didn't realize we knew each other until we were half way through our over the phone consult. i got to thinking...hmmm....heiden is kind of an unusual name....could it be?.....nahhh...and then,

me: okay wait, heiden, i have to ask, what's your last name?

heiden: uh....bliss....

me (super professional sounding): dude, i totallly know you. this is diana moore! (my maiden name)

and although i'm super sure you would like me to type out the rest of our conversation just the way i did above, i'll spare you the intrigue and just let you know that there was a lot of laughter, a little reminiscing, and a mutual feeling that this was meant to be. so they are salt and pepper. can i be a napkin or something? (bad joke, but its my blog and i'll bad joke if i wanna). =)

carl and ashmae have a baby

carl and ashmae are my friends. more than that. they are the people i run into at events around town or among common friends who make my face light up as soon as i see them, and who i greet with the biggest hi and hug. (the double 'h,' i like to call it). little known fact, ashmae took my wedding pictures. no she is not a photographer. but she is an artist of the best sort. she sees beauty and makes it wherever she goes. her prints are all over the internets and etsy land and beyond. check them out here now these two have been joined by a third. a sweet little remy boy. since cute poses, props and perfection aren't really my thing, really wanted to capture all that awe and wonder and adoration that comes with being first time parents. this is what we got, all on film.
