be mentored by yan | utah photographer, boise photographer

EDITED TO ADD: whoa whoa whoa!!!! i have been blown away by the amount of interest i have received in mentoring sessions. those of you who contacted me for more info, should have recieved an email from me today. If you did not, send me an email with a swear word in the title, so I will be sure to notice you. At this time I am only offering a limited number of spots, and though I just sent out info today, those spots are close to being gone! I'm about to go turn on a Mates of States song song to dance my pants off to. That's how thrilled I am at the prospect of meeting each of you! remember when you were a kid and any time you had a question there was this one great source of all knowing wisdom? she was always there, almost always had a patient answer (except for the millionth time you asked why you couldn't spend the night at your best friend's house), and you felt so secure and safe, knowing that if you had a problem or were confused on something, your Mom could without fail save the day?

...sigh, i miss having all my bad days saved. i miss being able to run to my mom when i can''t figure something out. i miss having my sweet, good mother, not only answer my question, but being able to see  her eyes full of love as she did so.  i miss  hearing that tone of praise in her voice, as though i was so brilliant for even formulating what i wanted to ask.

the problem is that  i got older. life got bigger. and way way way more complicated. and though i'm still very much inclined to call my mom when there is something i

just

don't

get,

unfortonately, there are limits to her formerly endless wells of knowledge. like for instance:

photoshop.

any canon product.

and the virtues of apple over pc, to name a few.

and some days i wish, i yearn i ache, for there to be just one person who would have in the past and who would still, answer all of my millions of pitiful questions along my photographic journey.  although i have had incredible resources and friends i would be extremely remiss for not acknowledging, they are in fact, the reason i am where i am today (you know who you are), there was never just one all knowing cross between dumbledore and my mom: ie someone with ALL the answers.

okay, now don't laugh, but with this is mind, i would like to throw a little offer out there. first the disclaimer: i am not dumbledore. i am not an embodiment of everything wise and good, like my mom was for me when i was young. basically, i only know how to do what i know how to do. but surprisingly, i get quite a large number of emails asking me this VERY thing. how do I do what  I do. And you know what? I want to give some answers. But more importantly, I want to get to you know you as I do.

So starting this winter, me, the yan in Yan Photography will be offering half day and full day ONE on ONE  mentoring sessions. If I'm going to mentor, I really want to make a connection with you, and I really want you to get ALL your questions answered, and for right now, I just can't see doing that in a group format.  These mentoring sessions will include my photo process from start to finish, including an actual photo shoot I want us both to participate in, post processing and product info. So if you are at all interested in the Yan way, but more importantly, the Yan way helping you find YOUR way, please email me at photography.yan@gmail.com for more info and pricing.

and i think that officially concludes the LONGEST verbal post I've every written on this blog. in the near future i hope to have some pretty pictures of myself (not an easy feat, mind you), to include with posts such as these. but until my plans for that pan out, i leave you with a whole lot of words. and i hope that you found some of them good. =)

because everyone is going green | boise wedding photographer, utah wedding photographer

so here is the day after session for justin and michele's lovely greenhouse wedding. day after sessions are among my favorites as far as shoots i get to do. because it takes place on a day either before or after the wedding, its where you and i get that much more crazy and creative, without the stress, and without the trade off of missing out on your own wedding celebration. i offer these sessions in all of my wedding packages as well as a la carte. plug over.

now, instead of venturing into new territory, we actually returned to the scene of the crime ceremony, the lovely edwards greenhouse in Boise, ID. we didn't have much time to shoot just michele and justin the day of, so i was wayyy pumped to maximize the quaint cuteness of the greenhouse for one whole session.

behold.

YAN GOES TO MINI LAND | Boise Family Photographer

i'm not gonna lie. I was more than a little nervous for my mini sessions. the night before i was up way too late with blood shot eyes, feeling sick because of my nerves. i almost felt numb, cleaning my lenses, clearing my cards, stocking up on candy and other bribing methods. Seeing as how I'd never tried cramming a nice family session into only 30 minutes before, I had no idea what to expect. in fact, i expected the worse. but you know what i got? super, major, mega blessed. Despite the rain the night before, the weather was absolutely perfect. every single child i met that day was beyond adorable, but more importantly, cheerful (and photogs out there, you KNOW that's not always the case). my husband stood by my side, literally, with hand puppets to draw out those extra smiles. and things really couldn't have gone better. here's a little taste.

lamott sb

these first three shots are actually of the amazing Lamott family, who came back for an early mini session slot after their session the evening before had to end early due to some yucky rain.

what's with all the no picture posts? | Boise children's photographer

*******edited to add: how could i forget to mention that  i have TWO mini sessions slots still open for this saturday!!! 9:00 am or 11:00 am anybody? i'm sorry, i really am! but i am all about bizzzzznessss this week. and as many photogs out their know, doing this whole "i'm a pro photographer thing," sometimes the biz side can overwhelm the creativity side, and this is one such post. now onto some REALLY important business matters, such as....

FACEBOOK. i'm there, people i am there. but you want to know the truth? its not a WHOLLLLLLLE lot different than being right here on the blog. still, if you want to become my "fan, " and make me feel all rock star like, click here, i think. i mean, go ahead and click, i promise its not an internet scam, but i can't totally promise that it will take you to a place where you can click that cute, gray, "become a fan."  button. sigh....so maybe i don't have this whole facebook thing down quiiiiite yet. ha. but seriously, yan fan yourselves. that's right, i said it.

second,

TWITTER. now this is a little embarrassing. but really, how could you live with yourself, knowing i'm out there, tweeting things like "shopping,"  or "woke up on the wrong side of the bed," and you are not       f o l l o w i n g    m  y    e v e r y    m o v e. so if you are interested in the details of my daily life of awesomeness, click here. i'm going to do my best to sound way cool and larger then life. but concerning the link,  see same disclaimer as written in paragraph one.

lastly,

thank you thank you thank you from the bottom of my deep red heart for all of your responses to my desparate plea for an assistant. i am happy, and a little sad as well, to report that the position has been filled-------by my mom. no joke. she says she wants to be near me while i'm here in boise, and if that's how she has to do so, so be it. what a lady! she looks fierce in leopard print and might be better with children than i am. she did have, cough,  eight of them. whoa!

okay yan fans (ahem, hint, hint), thank you for attending this cyber business meeting with yan photography. you've gotten your assignments, now go on, git!

=)

YAN PHOTOGRAPHY FEATURED | Utah wedding photographer, Boise wedding photographer

coming to you this morning from the SLC airport (en route to Boise), I am happy and honored (please note double 'h' usage) to announce that this session was featured on the Utah Bride Blog! Oh we all know this beautiful couple was bound for stardom, but it is such an honor for me as a photographer to be featured anywhere, and especially on such a pretty little blog. So even if you've seen the pictures already, go ahead and check out the other awesomeness on the Utah Bride Blog by clicking the link above.

Now wish me luck on a long trip away from my sweet little family to Boise Id. Just said a teary good-bye to my girls, preceeded by a teary good-bye to my husband (who packed for me because sweetness runs through his veins instead of blood). But I'm ready for a stellar work week in Boise!

I'm also looking for anyone who is interested in assisting me at my various shoots this week. Most will be in the evening, with a whole bunch of minis on Saturday morning. Please email me at photography.yan@gmail.com if you're interested.

over and out!
