i heart elizabeth | boise children's photographer

i wish i had more sessions like this. just me, and one little, teeny tiny person showing me their  bright, big world. elizabeth and her family live in seattle, so i was extremely flattered they chose little ol' me to be their photographer. finding an urban location downtown that is also tucked far enough away from cars and traffic isn't the easiest thing in the world. but i loved this pocket we came across. it was totally suitable for play (minus a few patches of, um, broken glass, sorry mom!) and we had a delightful time.

enjoy this little peek at elizabeth. she's a vibrant child with a bright future. just check out those eyes.

now just a warning: these next few shots are not technically perfect. it was at the end of our session, the light was low on a grey cloudy day, so these are not as clear or crisp as i would normally show. but i fell in love with them, and the feeling of being F R E E that they convey. 14-blog

Kyleigh and Chris | Boise Wedding Photographer

Ladies and Gentleman of the jury, After much deliberation a conclusion has been reached: I will post the first part of Chris and Kyleigh's wedding photo extravaganza here, at this time, hallelujah. The second part, including shots of getting ready, ceremony, reception and anything else I feel like  will be posted at a (hopefully not much) later time. why, you ask?

too.     many.       gorgeous.      photos.          to.           choose.        from.

But for today, here's the break down. I met Chris and Kyleigh the morning of their wedding day to do some yan style, only bride and groom, out of the box shots. This was their time to be together and be in love and work it out like models all over boise. mission accomplished. I have the proof. To see more some of the stuff I'm not posting yet, check out the awesome site of fellow rocksta----I mean, photographer, jayme montoya, here.

I was lucky enough to have jayme along to second shoot. She did an a m a z i n g job.

and speaking of amazing, I have to say that while Kyleigh and Chris were falling in love with each other all over again, I was falling in love with them! Seriously, I couldn't have dreamed up a better couple to work with. Watching them do their thing, adoring each other and celebrating their love made heart happy. Thanks so much you guys.

adam and darcie | boise band photographer

take a walk with me everyone. away from the cute kids (they'll be fine). away from the lovely families (they'll remain endearing), and on over to the realm of super sweet ultra awesomeness. in other words, the land of band photography. sometimes during my family sessions, as i'm jabbering behind the lens, i say, "okay, now this is your band shot." upon which i proceed to attempt some weird angle or include a certain amount of artistic distortion. i like it. a little too much. when mom sees the photos she wonders why her child who was born with a perfectly beautiful, average sized nose, now appears to be the offspring of toucan sam.

recently i had the opportunity to actually photograph a band. a real one. adam and darcie. and they're good. really good. make you cry in your bathroom kind of good. these two genius' have even been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered.         yeah.

i was so nervous my photographs of them wouldn't measure up to the wonderful coolness that is their music. but thankfully, no toucans here today. alright, alright. there may be ONE shot of sir adam that is less than flattering. but. i inserted my watermark below his foot so that he appears to be on the verge of crushing yan photography like a bug. its my way of letting him get back at me.

now go check out their sweetness here .

after you look at the photos of course. and maybe even leave a comment. or 80. you decide.cement-blog-2the-valley-where-im-from

long time coming | Boise Children's photographer

in the end, it is still unclear to me why these beautiful childrens' mother is not among my bffs. the back story: we went to high school together. kalah was, um, cooler than me, funnier for sure, and better at basketball. everyone liked her, because it was pretty much impossible not to. but there was more to kalah than average popularity. she had this "other" quality to her. this thing about her that made you want to be better, smile more, and treat others with additional kindness. she just sort of shone and inspired, which I'm sure everyone can agree is no easy thing to do in high school. fast forward to modern day when i started my business and emailed everyone i've ever known about my "accomplishment." kalah checked out my website and wrote me back this super nice and supportive "kudos" type message, despite the fact that we hadn't talked in like six years. typical kalah. always something nice to say. we went back and forth about scheduling photos for her kids, and back and forth, again, then around...then we triple axeled, back flipped spun, before finally landing on a date last week.

suffice to say, it was worth it.

making my job easy| boise family photographer

Hold on a second, I'm still catching my breath. Editing this session for just a simple sneak peak has been EXCRUCIATING. These people are way too beautiful. And I took way too many pictures. And picking some to post has been way too painful. I'm not sure how many we ended up with for the "preview," but you guessed it, its a number way too high. What can you do? So the actual session: first we went downtown and hung around an alley for a while. good times, as you will soon see. Then we drove about 20 minutes to a field of "flowers" near where I live. My husband noticed said field as he was driving home a week or two ago and suggested it to me as a shoot location (see honey, i told you i'd give you credit). I fell in love immediately. But in case anyone else is drawn to fields of purple weeds that appear to be charming little flowers, be warned that such places don't exactly smell like flowers. The smell itself is hard to describe, but just know that when I got home I was asked immediately by my family to change my clothes and take a shower.
